About The Fridge
The community fridge is an opportunity for persons needing food in between paycheques, or food bank visits to access food with no restrictions on amount. Based on other communities, recipients take only what they need, and are so appreciative of the stop gap during difficult time.
The fridge operates under a “take what you need, leave/give what you can” philosophy, where necessities such as fresh produce, pantry goods, and personal care items, can be accessed at any time of day, no questions asked, without enrolling in a program, and free from the stigma associated with food insecurity.
We do not police who is able to access food, how much of it, or how often. The community fridge and pantry is depleted, replenished, cleaned and sanitized daily by a team of community volunteers.
We operate due to the generosity of the communities such as Rotary and the London Food Bank. We have been supported by McKenzie Lake and Libro with start up costs to launch this initiative.
About Us
We are a volunteer-driven London-based community initiative that aims to provide fresh food and staples for free, through a community fridge and pantry, to combat food insecurity.
We are a network of volunteers, business owners, and community builders mobilizing to provide a hub for mutual aid to occur, where community members can support others directly without intervention.
